Éditions d'Art de Rambouillet - "Le Roi Porté par deux Maures"
W: 141 cm | H: 127 cm
A fine screen-printed reproduction after the original 18th century Gobelins Manufactory tapestry titled Le Roi Porté par deux Maures; The King Carried by Two Moors. The original tapestry was produced for the Château de Fontainebleau and belongs to the celebrated Tentures des Indes series, depicting exotic figures, tropical landscapes and abundant wildlife in the grand decorative tradition of French royal interiors.
Éditions d'Art de Rambouillet were producing this style of tapestry in France in the 1970s and early 1980s, under the direction of Georges Boitard, and are known for their faithful screen-printed reproductions of celebrated antique tapestries. Printed on a linen blend.
The composition is richly detailed; a central figure of a king sheltered beneath a striped ceremonial parasol, attended by two bearers amid an abundance of exotic animals, tropical palms and lush foliage. The wide decorative border in gold and deep red frames the scene in the manner of the great Gobelins workshops.
A striking and decorative piece with genuine historical reference, ideal as a statement wall hanging in a traditional, eclectic or maximalist interior.
